This template is part of the suite of Skill-Based Hiring resources to help guide users on a neuroinclusive end-to-end talent acquisition process. In order to best utilize this template, users should first complete the Skill-Based Role Assessment to identify the key responsibilities and requirements needed for a given role.

When to use: Hiring managers should use this template, and the rest of the Skill-Based Talent Management Guide, when preparing to publicly post a job opening. This template is used to ensure that the description of the job is written in a way that is clearly organized, is clearly worded, and lacks unnecessary filler that distracts from more key information and may cause qualified candidates not to apply.

Note that the only format option available for this template is a .Word document because this template is intended to be edited by the user, both adding information and also removing user-facing instructions.

Why revise job descriptions: Many neurodivergent job seekers report that job descriptions themselves are a common barrier to accessing employment. Most job descriptions are populated with unnecessarily wordy and inaccurate depictions of the company's mission and culture along with a long list of abstract-yet-demanding skill qualifications. In reality, this information has been minimally reviewed and is thoughtlessly copied from an existing template that may or may not have anything to do with the actual duties of the job.
